Lesson 10: Contentment in a Covetous Culture – Learning to Live Without Want

Scripture commands contentment. Culture manufactures discontent. Hebrews 13:5 addresses both behaviour and condition. "Conversation" refers to manner of life. This is not limited to speech—it is lifestyle. "Without covetousness"—this is the removal of desire for what has not been given. Covetousness is not possession. It is craving. "Be content with such things as ye have"—this is not passive acceptance. It is active satisfaction. The reason follows: "for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
