Let the light shine by Kai-Anne Clews
from Original Christian Poetry · host Kai-Anne Clews
God is like Nature It pops up everywhere And even a little bit of it Can brightened even the worst sadness and despair. Even under concrete slabs And serious heavy blocks, Nature finds all the gaps To give us Dandelion moon clocks. Even around penitentiary barbs Brave vines break in! With petals and perfume, To brightened the terrible loneliness, And lift the deadly gloom. Try to keep the birds out, Or shush the crickets as they sing, It never tires of growing back, It will grow and blossom and spring! it will sprout! It will sprout! Try and hold great Nature back, And you’ll just wear yourself out. So too our Great Gods love for us, Breaking and bursting through, As gentle as a seedling, As persistent as thick bamboo. But we insist to mow down the jungles of His goodness, To trim the edges and edges of His story, And then we have the audacity to mumble About a bourgeoisie lack of glory. But when we get tired of hemming Him in, And let His love for us grow wild a free, From stumps He’ll regrow skyscrapers, And span wide the flower’d canopy. When we grow weary of saying, Our Lord doesn’t show us His love, He’ll regrow the palms gently swaying, And we’ll hear the gentle cooing of His doves.
