Sometimes we're so worried our kids might not be happy... I don't know where this idea that a parent's job is to make sure their kids are happy came from, or how it gained so much popularity. But, in my opinion, this belief that we need to make sure our kids are happy 24/7 has caused too many guilty feelings in parents, and too many ineffective interactions between parents and their children. What if I told you, though, that there is value in letting them get mad? What if I gave you permission to let your kids say they're angry, and even that they hate you, without feeling like you have somehow failed as a parent? What if I showed you that allowing your kids to be bad at you can be one of the most effective things you can do to raise confident, enterprising, resilient leaders?
