Let's Be Real - Mama Journeys - Episode 106 W/April Hawkins

As a single mama of 4 kids, 2 girls and 2 boys and is the reigning Ms. Colorado Americana. She also is a Geotechnical Engineer!  She is also training to be in the WINTER OLYMPICS!!!  She is a Skeleton athlete (head-first flying down the ice). She had to really train hard and the email to welcome her to the olympic team, WENT TO HER SPAM account!!!!  Here is your lesson for the day…check your spam!  As a mama of 4, she struggled with postpartum depression and frustration as well as trying to get your body back after giving birth FOUR times!  She is an olympic athlete, she really struggled with getting her body back. She decided on the second go-around of having kids (she has an age gap between the two sets of kids) that she would give her more grace because there is no trophy for bouncing back the "fastest."  Her mama was her biggest supporter and continues to be. Since kids are sponges and repeat it all, when they repeat what she says she has to take a long look at what she says to ensure she isn't putting things out there that she doesn't want them to repeat. She wishes she would have known about YANA when she was a new mama. She wishes she had her community of people who "got" her that could have been there for her. She didn't look for the help and support and wishes she would have.
