Lets Change our Verbiage

from The Soulful Eclectic

I wanted to share how we as a community can begin to change how we view the community and ourselves. I was talking with m husband and noted some of the comments we both were making based on our life, life choices, and path. I found that the verbiage that we grew up with and used ourselves had truly impacted our view not only on ourselves but also on the community, Many of us grew up in households where language like "stop acting black" or "White people do that" or many "black people don't do those things". As I am growing older I am realizing how that can and has navigated many life choices and it wasn't until I said "Why can't white people do that, why can't black people do that etc. It was not until later in life that I said if you like it, or love it do it it doesn't matter if you have never witnessed anyone that looks like you do it be the first or whatever number if you want to do it and be the best at it!. So in this episode, I am sharing my thought on changing our language and our verbiage to say I can do it too!
