Welcome to the Tweed Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweed Trends.

It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Welcome back to Tweed Trends. As you remember, I said, I got it all wrong. So although today is National Safe Day, we got some other things to discuss.

Let's get started. As I stated before, today is actually National Safe Day, which is all about teaching children, informing and educating parents and relatives and people that have children in their lives about the safe storage and care for the guns in their homes. It's one of these things where now with the pandemic and then all of the protesting and writing that's been going on, a number of people have gone the route of securing firearms. I'm pretty sure if there is a report coming out about 2020 and the purchase of guns, it is going to be through the roof.

Because you see people standing in lines to get stuff from grocery stores and things like that. You see these same lines at the gun store where people are like, you know what? I got to get some type of protection because things out here in these streets are starting to get a little crazy. So with that being said, knowing about proper, the proper way to handle your gun, the proper way to put away so that children that are in your care or that may come by your place can't just stumble across it, load it or if it's already loaded.

If you keep one in there just in case, you don't want a senseless act, you know, the loss of life to be because of a careless thing that you did or something that you did thinking it was a good way, a safe way, a shortcut to end up cutting someone's life short. Okay, so one more time, like I said before, my last Thursday's episode was actually for today, which is National Safe Day. I got a little excited, yes, I did. So you'll be able to hear that again.

And in the meantime, and in between time, we got some other stuff that we need to discuss. When I got up this morning, I had a discussion with my husband. He's like, oh, did you hear about Drew Brees? And I'm like, huh?

And he's like, oh yeah, he's out there and people are talking. So I'm like, oh, I haven't even got to my phone yet, but you best believe I'm about to get to it right now because I got a little show to prepare today. And it is amazing to me that there are some people out there that still seem to think that Colin Kaepernick kneeling that that whole thing was about a flag. Hello, no, how many times we have to tell you, it was about a silent protest in regards to police brutality against African Americans.

And I guess brown people too. But having said that, one thing I wanna warn you about, whenever you are on social media, online or whatever, do not fall for the soundbite trick because people will take a soundbite and turn it into something completely different than what it actually is. So I saw a soundbite of what Drew Brees had said, and I'm like, you know what? Let me find the full article.

Let me find the full interview. And in listening to the full interview, you know what? People had a right to be upset because the interviewer set the question up beautifully. He was like, he brought it about, he did not try to lead Drew Brees into saying something about a flag.

He specifically said, yeah, you know, we got a bunch of stuff going on, police brutality, Colin Kaepernick kneeling, you as a team leader. What say you Drew Brees? And talk about blowing in the breeze, Drew Brees blew it, okay. He had an opportunity to say something about something and he took it back to the old school, back to the fake news, if you will.

I hate that term because it came from that guy that I don't really like, but that's what he did. He starts talking about not respecting anybody who doesn't respect the flag because of his forefathers and the civil rights movement people and all this and gets him all teary-eyed. So had nothing to do with it, Drew. Hello, wake up, where have you been?

And I'm mad at the guys on his team because I'm thinking, have you got a guy like him on your team that is thinking such nonsense, that the shenanigans going on upstairs, then you need to go reel him in, sit him down and be like, look, bro, let's talk. Let me see your side, let me hear what you're thinking and then let me tell you about my side and tell you what I'm thinking, you know? But that's one of the things that I think is wrong with the country right now, and I'll get into that in the next segment. So I am all for people having an opinion, but if we're not even talking about the same thing, if we're talking apples and oranges, then your opinion really doesn't count in that situation, which is how I look at the situation with Drew Brees.

It's great, did you feel some type of way about the flag, but that's not what we're talking about, Sugar Plum. So I just can't, I can't co-sign with you on that. And so I saw another thing, a tweet where Laura Ingram had said something in a while back about LeBron James and Kevin Durant and how they were not elected. And we have a competent president who was elected that we don't need to listen to athletes to hear what their political advice or thoughts are, basically discounting them, you know?

And some people will say, oh, you know, that has nothing to do with race or whatever. And I'm like, ah, yeah, Drew Brees out on that one, because you can't tell me that you look at this person and they have an opinion. And this is what makes the news, this gets broadcast, like for real, it's one thing if Laura wants to talk to her little friends at the house about it, but really this gets put out into the atmosphere. Oh my gosh, the shut up and dribble thing.

However, now this thing with Drew Brees is out here. Don't you know the same Laura Ingram that said that people like LeBron James need to keep their mouths shut? Was like, oh my gosh, yeah, you know, I can imagine that Drew Brees has an opinion about this and he's such a good Christian man and all this other stuff. So Drew Brees can put his opinions out in the atmosphere and it's okay, but LeBron James can't, why is that?

So now it's starting to look a little black and white here, pun intended, because hello, and that is one of the things that works my last nerve about what's going on in this country right now, that it's like, you can have an opinion, but if it's not the same opinion as mine, then you can't have it. Then I take that back, you cannot say what you wanna say, you can't express yourself the way you wanna express yourself because it doesn't agree with what I agree with. Now, there was a time in history where debating was a big thing and I think the whole concept of debating, that's a lost art. I don't think people know how to debate anymore because it's all about hear me, listen to me and go along with what I say.

It's not the educated discussions anymore. We don't have that. People are not willing to sit down together and talk things out. They would rather yell at each other and do this whole reality TV type of tit for tat and that is awful.

We have a president, a sitting president who is like the king of reality TV. He has the world thinking that, you know, if I say something and throw it out there, take it and run with it. Don't bother to fact check it because I said it and I must be right and that's what they do, that's what his followers do. They take it and they run with it.

They don't fact check it because very rarely other facts in there. Very few facts are embedded in the things that he says but he says the things that he does because he knows that the base that he's preaching to, that they're not willing to put in that extra time, that extra work to do the homework and find out is this a real thing? When I hear something that sounds crazy, I'm checking it. When I hear something that doesn't sound crazy, I'm checking it because I don't want to speak on something that I don't know to be true because then that makes me look like a crazy person like, oh, you actually believe that?

What? So I'm, like I said, so that's a thing that I think if we could get to the point where we can all come to the table and have a discussion that the skies would clear up, the days would be brighter and the sun would shine hotter and things, well, maybe I don't want the sun to shine hotter, but I think things would settle down and people would begin to see where the issues lie and then we can focus our attention on those issues.
