Episode 14: Let's Talk About Sickle Cell Disease In this episode, we discuss all things Sickle Cell Disease. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited red blood cell disorder in which there aren't enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. There are multiple types of the disease. Symptoms include pain, swelling of the hands and feet, malnutrition, slowed growth, vision problems, and more. Complications include splenic sequestration, stroke, acute chest syndrome, pulmonary hypertension, organ damage, DVT and PE. Diagnosis is completed by blood test. The most effective treatments include bone marrow or stem cell transplant.
