Letting Go

from Sermons at Morehead FCC · host First Christian Church of Morehead, KY

The one where Jesus offers fishing advice to professional fishermen. The story of Jesus's ministry continues in the gospel of Luke as Jesus begins to gather a closer group of followers.  "In these lingering days of pandemic, when everything we thought we knew about how to order our lives, how to be a faith community together has been upended, it's easy to find ourselves on the side of the lakeshore with Peter. Tending to our old nets, the way we've always done things, hoping against hope that the next time doing the same thing will have a better outcome. And Jesus comes along and invites us to break out of old habits, to re-imagine ourselves in light of new circumstances, to set out into deeper waters. And part of us just wants to stick to what we know, fixing the nets, after all, we've been doing this our whole lives."
