Episode #38 This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, ... This beloved hymn was written by Harry Dixon Loes in the early 20th century. Its lyrics are simple for kids to easily remember and recite, with "light of mine" having a powerful meaning of the love and truth of Jesus Christ. That the "light" that is within each of us should not be hidden, but instead displayed to all the world. This hymn is a wonderful way to introduce and teach young ones about faith and confidence in Jesus! Harry Dixon Loes studied music at Moody Bible Institute. After comprehensive training in music, he served a variety of churches as a ministry of music. From 1939 until his retirement he was a member of the music faculty of Moody Bible Institute. He penned the lyrics for 1,500 gospel songs, and composed 3,000 tunes.
