Leveraging Social Media For Your Art: A Conversation with Shane Lance

from Summer School - A Photography + Creative Podcast · host Summer Grace

In this episode, we dive into the vibrant world of social media with Shane Lance, an engineer producer who's made waves on TikTok. Shane shares his unconventional journey into social media, initially resisting it, only to find a powerful platform for connecting globally during the pandemic.  Shane highlights how authentic social media interactions have become a significant source of business, with most of his projects originating from his online presence. He stresses the value of letting followers into your daily life to build stronger connections, yet reminds us that your personality and interactions with others can leave a lasting impression beyond your online content. We wrap up discussing the opportunity social media presents for artists to find their voice and community, especially in quieter moments before the storm of viral trends. Despite the rollercoaster of followers and likes, the key is to stay the course, embracing the vast space online to express your unique style. This conversation is a testament to the dynamic yet challenging journey of sharing your work online, highlighting the undeniable rewards of connections, opportunities, and growth. About Shane Lance: Shane’s passionate about family, music, and people. As a teenager he learned to play drums from his mom and guitar from his dad. As he grew as a musician he began to fall in love with the songwriting and song-crafting process. In 2007, after audio production school, he landed an internship-turned-job at a recording studio in the Seattle area where he worked as an engineer and producer for over a decade. In 2020 he shifted to working independently as he prepped for a career and life move. Now he and his wife and three kids live in Los Angeles where he creates full time from his home studio. These days his focus is working 1-on-1 with artists, often writing, producing and mixing. As he describes it “taking their songs from conception all the way to Spotify.” Find Shane online: TikTok: @wshanelance Instagram: @wshanelance Website: https://www.wshanelance.com Podcast: That Sounds About Right Connect with Me: Subscribe to our emails for updates on all things Summer School! The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
