Levitical Priesthood Pt 2 ~ The Origins of the Levitical Priesthood

In the Melchizedek Priesthood, there are three offices or roles: Firstborn, King and Priest. These offices were split up by Jacob between three different groups. Joseph was given the firstborn birthright blessing. Judah was given the kingship blessing and office. And the Levite Priests were given the priestly blessing and office. The priestly office was transferred to the Levites after the sin of the golden calf incident: It was the firstborn who offered sacrifices to the golden calf: And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD. Exodus 24:5 After this, the role of Priesthood was transferred from the firstborn to the Levites: Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? Let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. Exodus 32:25-26 Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am the LORD. Numbers 3:45 In this teaching segment, we look at the ministry of Aaron as he was the first in the Levitical Priesthood. They served in the Holy Place. They only went into the Holy of Holies once a year. They wore special priestly garments. The general service of the tabernacle was the duty of the Levites.
