Leviticus 13 - Laws for Leprosy | Bible Podcast, David Alley, Peace Christian Church
In this video listen to Leviticus 13 read by David Alley, followed by comments and prayer. In Leviticus 13 we talk about skin diseases, and the general category of leprosy. This isn’t necessarily the leprosy we know of today as Hansen’s disease, but a group of skin diseases which include that.In 2021 the world is in the grip of the COVID pandemic and governments have very strict rules about how to live, so as to prevent the disease from spreading. So looking back at this chapter we see God’s wisdom at work to protect the nation of Israel from infectious diseases too. As tough as it is being under restrictions, with social distance, face masks, sanitization, quarantining and much more, and we can all relate to that, we also see the wisdom of it.Father Damien was a catholic priest who ministered on Molokai Island in Hawaii among lepers and ended up dying from the disease himself. We know that God cares for everyone, including lepers, but in this chapter we see the aspect of God's care for the entire group. Because there were no doctors in the camp, following these rules, with the priests in charge, was important. As priests under the New Covenant, we also have a responsibility before God to keep our lives, our families, and the people of God free from things that are impure. This isn’t just the job of a church leader, but rather we see that we all have this job. These chapters not only show us God’s care and provision for the health needs of a nation back then, but also the importance of spiritual purity now.
