Lewis Coach Bryan Hill

from UVA and NOVA Legends Podcasts® · host Julian Brown

Bryan Hill's basketball journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. After playing at the mythical DC private school Mackin during its final season, he starred at Woodson ('89) under legendary coach Red Jenkins. He went on to spend a standout year at Chowan Junior College, earning a place in the school's Hall of Fame, before joining Bobby Cremins and Kenny Anderson at Georgia Tech, where he capped his college career with an ACC Championship in his senior year. For the past 30 years, Coach Hill has combined teaching math with coaching basketball across the DMV, with notable stints at Mt. Vernon, T.C. Williams, and Ballou. Now, he’s embracing a new challenge as the head coach at Lewis High School, aiming to rebuild a program that managed just two wins in the 2023-24 season. In this conversation, we delve into the keys to reviving a program at an ethnically diverse school with demographics that don’t traditionally favor basketball. It was a long-overdue discussion with Coach Hill and a fantastic way to tip off the new basketball season.
