Speaking from Stornoway on the Island of Lewis, she was angry when she told me.‘Here, like everywhere else in the UK, the last decade has been nothing but fire-fighting. Some libraries have been cut and cut and cut. We’ve never really been able to do what we want to do and we can do. Libraries are a basic human right and I long for the time we don’t have to fight and we can concentrate on making a difference. ‘Libraries are part of what it is to be human.
