Library Activist: Professor Andrew P. Jackson:

Jackson is an adjunct professor of Black Studies in the History, Philosophy & Anthropology Department/Black Studies Program at York College and the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies at Queens College and a popular lecturer on Black History. Nationally, Jackson is Past President of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, Inc. (2004-2006) and Chairs the BCALA Affiliates Committee. He is Co-Chair of the American Library Association Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Sunrise Celebration, and is an editorial contributor and reviewer for ABC-CLIO, Inc. publishing company. Jackson's graduate thesis project became his first published work, Queens Notes Facts About the Forgotten Borough of Queens, New York (2010). His essay, In the Tradition: The Legacy of Cultural Messengers from Langston Hughes to Tupac Shakur was published in 2011 by Phati’tude Literary Magazine. He was the chief editor of The 21st Century Black Librarian in America: Issues and Challenges (2010) which received BCALA’s 2010 Contribution to Publishing Award. His most recent book, the Handbook of Black Librarianship, Third Edition will be released in July 2024 by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
