Life Abundant
from Hope-Full Living · host Sally Beck
In Kenneth Grahame’s classic children’s book, “The Wind in the Willows,” every character — Ratty, Mole, Badger, and Mr. Toad — is blessed with the gift of hospitality. The book is charming, full of adventure, good humor, and hospitality. What could be better than being together, welcoming friends, sharing dinners and picnics, and abounding with goodwill? The early Christians knew the gift of hospitality, too, through the unity of the Spirit. Luke described their lives in the book of Acts: “Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul … there was not a needy person among them” (Acts 4:32a, 34a). Jesus had told the disciples that He came to bring life — and life abundantly (John 10:10), and the early disciples experienced the abundant life in their togetherness, providing for and forgiving one another. We can, too, as we invite others — and the Lord, Himself — to gather around our tables. Come, Lord Jesus.
