Life in a meadow
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
Today, in my mind's eye, I saw a snapshot of a meadow teeming with life, with purple heather, a sprightly rabbit and a fluttering butterfly. Life. Over 700 years before Jesus came to earth, God told us through His prophet Isaiah that He would transform death to life, such as deserts and the wilderness bursting into bloom with great joy, the blind, deaf and lame being restored and a highway called the Way of Holiness. (Isaiah 35). Isaiah also prophesied words that the Saviour would utter, bringing restoration of Life: "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim goodness to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners ..." (Isaiah 61). Jesus spoke these words in the temple and said to His listeners "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing" (Luke 4:21). Many people were outraged at Jesus declaring that He was God's Saviour for Whom they had been waiting for so long. Perhaps some believed they could get to heaven in their own strength and on their own merits. The sinful lady who washed Jesus's feet with her tears and lavished expensive perfume on them totally believed Jesus. Where do you stand? If you have no idea, ask the Holy Spirit to bring life to the words in the Bible which might seem very dry to you right now. I am now constantly refreshed by what, I have to admit, I had considered to be dry and boring words.
