Welcome to the Tweep Trends Podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette. Hey, girl.
And you are tuned in to Tweep Trends. It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Today I want to talk about finishing the race. Let's get started.
Earlier today, I was listening to Heather B. Live on Series XM. And Thursday's is what she calls soul food Thursday. Heather is really big into cooking, so she'll talk about an actual recipe, how to cook something, whatever.
You'll get lots of tips and tidbits on cooking. And then she has a guest come on. Her name is Minister Kelle Avent. And she talks about food for the soul.
And in her talk today, she talked about something that I was moved, I was inspired. It just felt really good to hear it and be reminded of what her message was. And I'm like, so when I said, you know, other people need to hear this, but I didn't take notes. I didn't record it or anything like that.
So I'm like, you know what? I can speak off of my own experiences and be able to share the bottom line message of what she talked about earlier today. If you look up the word race in the Bible, you're going to find it several times. And it's not talking about the human race.
It's talking about actually running a race, finishing and completing. And I've got experience with that because there was a point in my life when a doctor told me I could not work out. My cardiologist was like, just stop for now. Let's check to see what's going on with you.
And then we'll see a little bit further down in the future. And December 2011, the cardiologist came to me and said, Yvette, you are free to go. You can run, jump, do whatever you do. You should be fine.
All of the findings that we discovered or whatever, we think that this is because of this, and therefore you are free to go. I almost immediately went and signed up to run a half marathon and started the training. I was so excited to know that I now had the ability and was being told that it was okay to go exercise again, that it felt like I was running for my life. It was like, you know what?
I've got my life back again. I've got my strength. I've got the endurance, hopefully, or let's build it up. But I got what I need.
I got the word from the doctor. He said, go. Let's go. And I did.
I went, did the half marathon, and then did five case, ten case, fifteen case, mud run, half marathon, full marathon. I just did it all. And when you sit and think about a race, a race is just like life. You've got a goal in mind, the end result.
Or you can look at each little particular goal that you have in life as an individual race. Okay, time to run this race. Let's prepare for it. For to do the half marathon, I had to start a training program.
And it was incremental. It started here. And then the next day you might add on a little bit. The next day you might add on a little bit more.
That next day may be a rest day. It's okay to take a rest. It's okay to take a break. But you get back on and you continue to follow the training cycle until you get to that last day of training, where it's like, all right, you should be ready to go.
Now go. Go do it. After you finish the training and it's time to actually go to the actual race, there are going to be so many things that happen from the starting line to the finish line that's going to frustrate you. You're going to be upset.
You're going to think that you can't go on. But deep down inside, you know you've done the training. You've done the work. You should be able to get to the end.
You just have to persevere. You have to keep going. You have to keep pushing yourself. Now, when you're running the race, you may get a little tired.
You might get a little winded. It's okay to walk. It's okay to jog. You don't have to run hard from the starting line to the finish line.
You can ease up if necessary. There are water breaks throughout the race. It's okay to get some refreshment to cool off, to take a load off for a minute. Now you're not going to sit down, but you're going to slow down and you're going to get hydrated and keep the ball rolling.
You're going to keep moving. Now you may get to a barrier that you think, like, you know what, I can't go any further. But when you are in that race, just think about it. There are people in front of you.
They are giving you that energy that you need because you see somebody else in front of you and they're doing it. They are making it. They are steadily moving and that gives you that extra little bit of adrenaline rush that like, oh yeah, I can keep going because look, all these other people, they are still moving. I can still move too.
Now, there's people behind you as well and they're looking at you. You don't know they're looking at you, but they are. And they're saying the same thing. They're like, oh man, look at her right there.
Look at him right there. They're still moving. I can still move too. The same thing in life.
People are watching you, especially little people. You never know what they are seeing or what they're hearing. So be mindful. Be mindful of how you present because people are watching you.
They're looking at you for cues on what they should do. So then as you're still running this race, you know, you may just be like, oh, you hit that wall. They talk about the wall in the marathon. You hit that wall.
Now, that's when you have the people with you. You can run a race by yourself or you can get a group of friends and be like, hey, let's do this together. And you have each other to support. You don't invite the person to run with you in a race that has never got off their couch.
You don't invite the person to join you in a race that has never done anything active. That's not the person that you turn to. You turn to the people that you know that have it in them to get out there and start to run with you. If they've never run before, you check that out in the beginning.
What do you think about this? And they very well maybe be like, you know what? Awesome. Let's do that.
This is a good goal to set. Let's go. And you got those people and they're pumping you up and you're pumping them up. And with that, you can go a little bit further and go a little bit further.
When you get to the finish line and you see that person with that medal ready to hang around your neck, that's not the time to stop. That's not the time to stop. Now, for me, my big journey, my marathon in life with little things that I have set in place that I want to do is pushing the button. I struggle with pushing the button.
I can set everything up. It can look all pretty, but actually putting it out there from someone to see. That's where I have the issue. And to me, that's crossing the line.
That's the finish line right there. I get all the way up there and then I choke. And it's like, what if I'm not good enough? What if people don't like it?
What if? What if? What if? What if?
You know what? But what if they love it? And that's what I've had to remind myself. What if they love it?
You never know until you cross that line. You push that button and you say, all right, I did it. Now, let's see how it goes. So all of this.
Although these aren't the words that Minister Avent was saying, this is all the stuff that I got from what she said and was able to mirror it to what I've got going on in my own life. And like I said, in my mind, I was like, you know what? There's somebody else out there that needs to hear this. Thank you so much for joining me for today's episode.
So before I go, just want to leave you with this one thing. Galatians 5.7 says that you were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? As you run your race, don't let anybody hinder you from reaching that goal.
Whether it's each individual little goal or your goal is just the end of your days. Don't let anybody hinder you. You have what you need inside of you and you have the right people around you as well. You just have to be able to recognize them and to know your worth and what you can do.
Okay? Have a great weekend. If you're up in the northeast area like we are and expecting that bad weather, be smart and be safe. And I look forward to seeing you back here again next week.
Have a good one.
