lifeboat earth: a modest proposal
from origaminomicon Hosted by origaminomicon
TW: violence, ecofascism, cannibalism, climate collapse, etc. in my first episode i will be talking about an essay i’m working on in my spare time called “lifeboat ethics: a modest proposal” wherein i outline the latent ecofascism that i believe is guiding america's refusal to act on climate change while at the same time increasing border security and police militarization. i will do this by critiquing an article published in 1974 by american ecologist gerritt hardin called “lifeboat ethics: the case against helping the poor”. i also reference jonathan swift’s “a modest proposal" and a curious case of cannibalism that occurred among shipwrecked english sailors in 1884. finally, i tie it all together in a satirical, somewhat paranoid way by suggesting a modest proposal for our times.
