Lifeline | Forever Changed: A Look Back on Sandy Hook 10 Years Later

from Precinct 444: The National Law Enforcement Museum Podcast

Today marks the 10-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting--one of the deadliest school shootings to ever occur in the United States. Dozens responded to the school in support of the victims and their families as the community came together in a time of great sorrow after such a horrific act. Among those who responded were police officers who were tasked with relaying information to the families and friends of the victims, which ultimately left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the officers.   This episode will briefly discuss the initial response and events of the day, the importance of establishing and implementing  a peer support network for officers who experience critical incidents, and explain how such events affect police officers.A special thanks to Officer Jimmy Guerrero (ret.) for lending us his studio space at Highly Unoffended.Featuring:Troy Anderson, Executive Director, Officer Safety and Wellness, NLEOMFMatt Garcia, Project Manager, Officer Safety and Wellness, NLEOMFSgt.
