At its heart, Zen liturgy is a Koan. It is fertile ground for seeing our own mind coming alive. Whether done at home or in the Zendo, it strikes to the heart of practice, opening us up to an aliveness and closeness with our life. Liturgy expresses gratitude, compassion, our vows, mindfulness and healing, but doesn't exist outside of the mind expressing it. That is its power, and its life as a Koan.
