Lightning Safety You Can’t Ignore | Jacksonville News

Lightning kills 20 people a year in the U.S. — and it’s not random. It strikes during routine moments like hiking or walking to your car. Experts warn: don’t wait for the storm to pass — hear thunder or see lightning, get inside immediately. Avoid trees and anything plugged into the ground. Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder before stepping outside. If someone’s struck, help them right away — they won’t shock you. Preparation saves lives.
