Likely voters throughout Virginia support measures to rein in prescription-drug prices

Almost two-thirds of Virginia’s likely voters are concerned about being able to afford prescription-drugs—even more so among those who live in Southwest Virginia, and in rural communities. That’s according to a new survey from “A-A-R-P Virginia”—which also finds broad support for proposals to rein in prescription-drug costs. Jim Dau is the group’s state-director… “Virginians from all walks-of-life, backgrounds, and communities worry about the skyrocketing costs of needed medications. And, they want their elected-officials to do something about it: More than 75-percent of the likely voters in our survey support Virginia joining other states, in drug-buying pools that lower the price of prescription-drugs through bulk-purchasing; nearly 60-percent support Virginia creating a board that would evaluate drug-prices, and then set limits on how much some payers could spend. Now, it’s time for the candidates to tell the voters what they would do—if elected—to rein in the costs of prescription-drugs.” The telephone-survey involved 800 likely voters, throughout Virginia—and was conducted in mid-August.
