Lindsay Clancy Trial Day 13 | Her Phone Searches & Private Notes Revealed

from True Crime Squad · host Kristi Brower

Day 13 of the Lindsay Clancy trial shifted away from the graphic autopsy evidence of Day 12 and focused heavily on Lindsay's digital footprint—her internet searches, private notes, text messages and phone activity in the months and days before the deaths of Cora, Dawson and Callan.Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Kyle Pavao, formerly assigned to the cybercrime unit, testified about his forensic examination of a Microsoft Surface Pro recovered from the Clancy home. Jurors learned that the device accessed a page concerning suicide methods in August 2022, although defense attorney Kevin Reddington established on cross-examination that the page was reached through links connected to a search for singer-songwriter Tom T. Hall, who died by suicide. Reddington also emphasized that Pavao could not establish that Lindsay herself was necessarily the person using the computer. The defense then elicited a series of other searches from December 2022 that provide important context to Lindsay's psychiatric state. They included searches concerning bipolar disorder, mania, benzodiazepines, psychiatric overprescribing, detox programs, DBT and ketamine treatment. These searches potentially support the defense argument that Lindsay recognized something was seriously wrong and was actively trying to understand what was happening to her.Former State Police detective Timothy Chiappini then walked jurors through Lindsay's iPhone. One of the most significant pieces of evidence was an October 2022 note in which Lindsay described herself as sad and depressed, struggling to parent three children the way she wanted, feeling less connected to Callan after stopping breastfeeding and experiencing resentment toward Cora and Dawson because of the demands of caring for all three children. The jury also heard about Lindsay's internet searches concerning hallucinations and psychosis. Particularly striking was a January 20, 2023 search—just four days before the killings—asking whether a sociopath could be treated. That evidence could cut both ways: prosecutors can argue it demonstrates Lindsay was consciously researching disturbing psychological concepts shortly before the killings, while the defense can argue that her searches demonstrate a woman actively questioning and researching her deteriorating mental condition.Chiappini also reconstructed Lindsay and Patrick's communications on January 24, 2023. Jurors saw their seemingly ordinary text exchange about dinner and ThreeV restaurant and heard about the calls between them after Patrick left the house—including the approximately 14-second conversation shortly before the killings. That digital evidence helps establish one of the most important timelines in the prosecution's case. There was also a significant development outside the jury's presence involving defense psychologist Dr. Paul Zeizel. Judge William Sullivan ruled that prosecutors may review records showing Zeizel's visits with Lindsay while she was being held in the court lockup. This relates to the Commonwealth's suggestion that Zeizel may have influenced Lindsay's later account of hearing a male voice telling her to kill herself and the children. Importantly, that remains a prosecution theory—not established evidence that Zeizel actually coached Lindsay.
