Hello, welcome back to another episode of Broken Record. My name is Ellie. I am your host. And today we are going to be talking about music festivals.
So this past week, the Bonnaroo Festival and the Coachella Festival lineups were released. And so this is super exciting news. So Coachella is a music festival that is hosted in Coachella Valley every April. And it is super duper popular with People Night age.
There is so many influencers that go. There's so many brands that pay influencers to go. There's like, I can't even begin to tell you. It's like everyone goes.
All the celebrities go. It's like a big thing in that world. And so it also has great music there, which is the reason I would go. I really want to go to Coachella one year, because I think it would be super fun.
But the lineup this year looks so good. And I'm so excited to talk about it. So headlining Coachella is Harry Styles, Billy Eilish, and Yay, who is Kanye West. And I didn't realize that he changed his name to Yay.
But I guess he did. Because when I saw the lineup, I was looking at a billboard article. And it was saying, Harry Styles, Billy Eilish, and Yay, formerly known as Kanye West. And I was like, what?
I did not know he changed his name. So yeah, Kanye West changed his name. I might be very late to this news. Or I might be early-ish.
I don't know. I don't really pay attention to Kanye West's music. So I'm not quite sure when he did it. But that's interesting.
Reminding me in Prince and how Prince used to be Prince. And then he had that symbol and was referred to as the artist formerly known as Prince. So yeah, that's what I thought of. And maybe you thought of that too.
But yeah, Harry Styles, Billy Eilish, and Yay are headlining. And that is pretty impressive. I know so many people who listen to Kanye West music. I know so many people who listen to Billy's music.
I know so many people who listen to Harry's music. And I think it's outstanding that they're all headlining. Harry Styles, I'm kind of surprised about it. Because he doesn't really do festivals.
It's very, it's a rare occurrence that he performs at a festival. And so it's interesting to me that he is. I'm excited to see what he performs and what his outfits are. And basically his performance, I'm excited to see his set list.
There's been speculation that he's coming out with new music. So maybe he'll perform some new songs. I don't know. It'll be exciting.
And then Billy is returning to Coachella as she played not last year. Because of COVID, but I believe she played in 2019 and 2018. I don't know. I feel like she's done it twice.
I know she's for sure done it once. Because I was watching her documentary and part of it was her performing at Coachella. But, anyway, yeah, she's super good. I love her performances.
She's a very captivating stage presence. She loves dancing, which is super fun. I am also excited to hear her set list because she has new album out. So I'm excited to see what songs she decides to perform and how she performs them with her visuals and stuff.
Because she always has amazing graphics on her tours. So Kanye West, I don't believe he's performed at Coachella. He might have in the past. I know I think he's been to Coachella, but whether he went as a performer or an attendee, I'm not quite sure.
But yeah, that's fun. And then some other artists that are performing that I'm excited for. Phoebe Bridges is performing. Again, we're not expecting her to perform a festival, but she is.
And that's cool. Um, what do you else? Megan Thee Stallion is performing. Um, Carly Rae Jumson is performing.
Carly Rae Jumson is performing. And I think that's really funny because I don't listen to her music very much. So it's very interesting to me that she is performing because I only know her song Call Me Maybe. So I'm excited to listen to her music and see what she performs.
Because YouTube live streams the performances at Coachella or I guess not YouTube. Coachella live streams it on YouTube. And so that way if you don't go, you can still watch the performances. So I'll be watching that.
And it'll be super fun. I'm excited to see what she performs. Another person who's performing is Binyes. That is Billy Eilish's brother.
He's also an amazing artist and amazing producer. He's, I've never seen him on tour. He came to Seattle in November, I believe. And I really wanted to go, but I was out of town.
And hopefully he comes again because I really want to see him perform because I love his music. Another person who's performing is Alec Benjamin. And I went to see him in concert in September, October, maybe. I don't know.
I did an episode on it earlier. I think it was one of my first or second episodes. And so he was super good. He's super adorable.
I love watching him. I'm excited to see him perform at a festival. I feel like he's also an artist that is more used to doing small crowds and like intimate performances. But he's doing Coachella, which is a pretty darn big festival.
So I don't know. This is also a good way for people to get their names out there because they'll come for Billy Eilish or Kanye West or Harry Styles or whoever. But then they'll get there early enough that they'll see the other acts and they'll be like, whoa, these people are really good. I should add them to my music library.
And then they will. Another person that I'm excited to see is Wallows. Wallows is a, I love Wallows. They're coming to Seattle in April.
And I'm so excited to see their performance. Dylan Minnet, I believe, is his last name. I don't know. He was in 13 Reasons Why and a bunch of other movies that I love.
And I'm excited to see what his hair looks like because he's dyed his hair in the past. It was blue a little bit. And then I think he went pink. I'm not sure.
But I'm excited to see if he had dyed hair or not. Like, it's just the small things that I look out for. Yeah. And then another artist I'm super excited to see is Steve Leacy.
He, I think his most popular song is Dark Red. And that went popular a little bit ago, which is super exciting. It's a good song. The next person I'm excited to see performing at Coachella is probably, oh, I'm excited to see a role model perform.
Again, he hasn't, I haven't seen him live. He hasn't come to the Seattle. But if he ever does, I will try and go. I think he's adorable.
I love his song Forever and More. I think it's really cute. It's a nice summer song. Yeah.
I'm also excited to see Olivia O'Brien. She's performing. She's not a very popular artist. I mean, she has songs that have gone viral, but she's not like Harry Styles.
Really, I wish headline level yet. But I think she could be at some point. But she's exciting. I'm excited to see her perform.
She went to my cousin's college, I think. And it looked like a fun concert. So hopefully she does something fun for Coachella. And then another group band, I guess.
I don't really know what they are. That is also headlining is Swedish House Mafia. And I've never heard of them. But apparently, there's something to be heard of because their name is in big letters and the poster and all the articles that were coming out included their name.
It was saying, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, yay, in Swedish House Mafia, set to headline Coachella. So I guess they're a big group. I know absolutely nothing about this group. But basing it off the name, I'm guessing they're some sort of.
I think it's called EDM, Electric Dance Music. But yeah, so that is everything I'm excited for for Coachella. I'm excited. Coachella is very notorious, I guess, for everyone having crazy outfits.
And so I'm excited to see what performers play into the crazy outfit aspects of Coachella. Because usually the crowd is wearing all different kinds of outfits. They have glitter, they have sheer tops. It's just crazy.
And so I'm excited to see if artists stick to what their style is, or they try and dress for the occasion, or whatever it may be. I'm excited. And then the next music festival that I'm super excited about is called Bonnaroo. It's in Manchester, Tennessee.
I have never heard of it until this year. And I found out because I follow Ash on Instagram and Ash is a musician who went famous for Moral of the Story, her song. I talked about her in last week's episode. But she was super good.
Not last week's episode. Was it last week's episode? No, it was two weeks ago. The Songs of 2021 episode.
But I was following her and she posted the lineup because she's performing, which I'm super excited for. I love Ash. I love her performances. I'm excited to see what she does.
I'm excited to see what she wears. Some other people who are hosting that I'm just so excited to see perform. Stevie Mix is performing, which is incredible. And I really, really, really hope they livestream it because I want to see her perform.
I wanted to see her perform live for so long. And I really hope someday she comes to Seattle or she comes somewhere near me so that I can go see her because she's just iconic. She's iconic. You can't even talk about her.
She's so outstanding. So role model is also performing at Bonnaroo. Jay Colis performing, Machine Gug Kelly, 21 Savage. Who else?
Well, this is also performing. Coin is performing. They're a good band. Oh, so was Lord Huron.
I went to their concert a little bit ago. They were super cool to watch. They had, they were really cool. They were really good at layering the instruments live, which was super cool to see.
It's very interesting how they, like how artists take their songs, their recorded songs and bring them into live music or bring their live music and put it into recorded songs. I always went that transition. Very interesting. I'm excited to see the backseat lovers performing at Bonnaroo.
I guess I'm not seeing them. Maybe just seeing what they perform, seeing their performances on YouTube after someone posts them. But I'm excited to see the backseat lovers perform. They have a song called Kill Be Girl that I absolutely adore.
It's so fun. It's got a nice beat to it. Yeah. And then I'm also excited to see the leeches is performing.
Jack Antonoff is in that group and Jack Antonoff is Taylor Swift's like co-writer and producer. And I think he's so brilliant. I think he's outstanding. So I'm excited to see him perform.
Denzel Curry is also performing. He also was performing in Coachella, but Denzel Curry's a good performer. He opened for Billy Eilish on her last tour and he was a very entertaining performer. Everyone in the pit was jumping up and down and very entranced by him.
And it was very interesting to watch. I also am excited to see Ty Verdes is performing and he has a song called AOK. And it's so happy. I love listening to it.
And he has just a great energy about him. So I'm excited for that. And yeah, that is all I have to talk about today. I'm very excited to see these performances and to see what everyone wears and to see what everyone's set list is.
Oh, I forgot to mention Bonnarue takes place in June. It's June 12th through 19th, I believe? Yeah, so we have a couple months for both of both Coachella and Bonnarue. But still, I'm excited to see how everything turns out and how everything looks.
