from Lioness Queen · host Rev. Dr. Marisha Stewart

TrevisMichelle's Bio: Having been raised mostly by my grandparents, Alice & Clarence Pressley, they instilled in me to always put God first, others second and myself last.  They imparted in me that it is most gratifying to help others, which in turn would help to make me a better person.  From a young age I was involved in community service by speaking to the City Council advocating to keep my neighborhood kid friendly.  Once I became an adult, I was recognized by former Mayor Dinkins, as the youngest Block Association President in the Borough of Queens. I am presently a member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., Theta Chi Chapter, which is a professional nursing organization organized in 1932 at Freedman’s Hospital, now known as Howard University Hospital.  I have been a member since 1993 and presently hold a position as Parliamentarian.  Chi Eta Phi, Sorority, Inc.’s motto is Service to Humanity.  This occurs through giving back to the community by hosting blood pressure screenings, health education, teen empowerment, senior advocacy and sisterhood. I am a proud charter member of Greater New York City Black Nurses Association.  A professional nursing organization that recognizes, supports, “represents and provides a form for Black Nurses, which advocates and implements strategies to ensure access to the highest quality of healthcare for persons of color.” As of result of my commitment to the community and through hard work, I was acknowledged as the youngest Block Association President by then New York City Mayor, David Dinkins. I currently advocate by speaking to at risk youths and adults, facilitating and motivating them to let their voices be heard.  I have facilitated a parenting class at the Springfield Family Residence on at a Business Employment workshop and facilitated a parenting workshop for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Delta Beta Zeta Chapter.  In addition, I was a part of a livestreamed panel discussion at Connetquot Central School District of Islip, sharing my experiences as a Registered Nurse and encouraging students to consider a career in the field of nursing.  Likewise, I was a panelist on a workshop held at Greater Allen A.M.E Cathedral of New York, “Pouring Into the Next Generation,” which empowers teenagers with open dialogue about leadership and nursing. Each year I sponsor a young lady for her prom.  I meet with her mother and we go shopping together.  When I see the joy on a young ladies’ face because they feel good about themselves, it makes the sacrifice worth it. I am a Registered Nurse at a major hospital in NYC, havingobtained a Masters of Public Administration– with concentration in Emergency/Disaster Management.  I am mother of 3 wonderful adult children and the grandmother of 4 precious grandchildren.  I live by my personal quote, “Tell me I can’t do something…I will do my best to prove you wrong.”
