Liquid Nitrogen vs Lava
from Versus · host Versus
Opposites attract, but not when frosty liquid nitrogen goes up against fiery lava. Liquid nitrogen boils at temperatures of -196 °C (-320 °F) and can freeze living tissue, leading to frostbite or even losing a body part. Depending on its viscosity and slope, lava can ooze along at speeds of up to 30 km/h (19 mph), destroying almost anything it touches. If that wasn’t terrifying, this extreme substance often stays incandescent, holding in its heat for about 50 years if it's thick enough. Which liquid would come out on top in battle? Would lava scorch the icy nitrogen or would liquid nitrogen freeze out its competitor? Subscribe to VersuS!
