The Portuguese government declared a day of national mourning, while Lisbon officials announced three days of mourning in the capital. Emergency services are responding to the devastating crash.2. A 6.0 magnitude earthquake in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday night has killed over 1,400 people and injured more than 3,000, with the United Nations warning of rising casualties. The quake devastated villages, collapsing mud-brick homes and trapping residents under rubble. The Taliban reported extensive damage across several provinces.3. Russia’s Foreign Ministry reiterated on Thursday that it will reject any Western troop presence in Ukraine as part of peace talks, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy prepared to meet European leaders in Paris. Spokesperson Maria Zakharova called Western involvement “unacceptable intervention” and accused the West of using Ukraine as a military testing ground.4. Iconic Italian designer Giorgio Armani, who built a multibillion-dollar fashion empire, died at 91, his fashion house confirmed on September 4, 2025.
