Listen, Honey! New Frontier's Ravenscraft Brothers Are Our People!

from Listen, Honey · host Katie Combs

Listen, Honey! It's one thing to find an apparel company whose designs you like. It's a whole 'nother thing to sit down and talk to the brothers that founded it and have built a fun, successful small business doing the things that you like to do: Be good people. Jared and Joshua Ravenscraft are good people, y'all.  The brothers founded New Frontier 10 years ago to honor the spirit of Appalachia by designing purpose-driven apparel that celebrates hard work, heritage and home. They told me they just didn't think Appalachia (or Eastern Kentucky … Mountain people … my people) were seen by the big apparel brands out there like Old Navy and the like. (No offense to them, of course. They can't speak to every sliver of culture when they're that big.) So the Ravenscraft boys started with $200 and started making hats. Fast forward a decade later and New Frontier is a big damn deal in these parts. They have everything from hoodies to socks and denim to camo shirts. They're still small and based in Morehead, Kentucky, but they have a very successful online store, design clothing for special customers like my favorite bluegrass band (The Creekers), and distribute to wholesalers all over the place.  We talked about how they started the business, what working with your brother as a business partner is like and all that. But we also just talked … about campfires and basketball and accents and the Amish. We went through their list of what music they listen to, what festivals and events they're going to this summer. It was a good ole, Listen, Honey sit down. Give the episode a watch or listen and be sure to share it with your friends. Especially single women who may have a CDL! Oh, and don't forget Amble, y'all! You know I've lost 80 pounds. They're helping me on my weight loss journey and y'all know I've lost a bunch of weight, right?
