Listen, Honey! When Appalachian Royalty Stops By, We Talk, Now!

from Listen, Honey · host Katie Combs

Listen, Honey! There's no person closer to Appalachian Royalty these days than author Silas House. From his award-winning novels to writing Grammy-nominated music video screenplays, he stands out as one of the more accomplished intellectuals from our neck of the woods. Honestly, y'all, when he said he'd join me for the podcast, I had to have a sit down. Y'all don't know how exciting this was. Silas was the Poet Lauret of Kentucky from 2023-2025. He was recently named Appalachian of the Year in a poll conducted by the folks at the Appodlachia podcast.  We talked about his novels, (Clay's Quilt, A Parchment of Leaves, The Coal Tattoo … there's seven of them, honey.) Lark Ascending was a Booklist Editor's Choice and won the 2023 Book Price and 2023 Nautilus Book Award. His newest books are a poetry collection called All These Ghosts and a murder-mystery called Dead Man Blues he's released under the pseudonym S.D. House. All that is to say, I was a little intimidated to talk to him, but that soon fell away. We're just two good ole mountain folks talkin' about mommas and corn bread and bookstores and writing.  You can find all of Silas's work and links at silas-house.com. Listen, Honey! Is produced by Jason Falls at Falls+Partners. Our studio is at BT Digital Marketing in Lexington, Ky.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
