Listening Practice - Une vague d'attaque de requin

from Learn French with daily podcasts

We are taking stock of this wave of shark attacks that has just put Sydney on alert. It forced the closure of the beaches and obviously it raises a question: what is happening in the water?Premièrement, la chronologie des événements. First, the chronology of events. On Monday, a surfer in his twenties was very seriously injured in the legs.Son état est critique. His condition is critical. A few hours earlier, another young surfer was luckier: his board was bitten but he came out unscathed. And the day before, Sunday, a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured while swimming in the harbor.Deuxièmement, les mesures d'urgence. Secondly, the emergency measures. Faced with this situation, the reaction was immediate: all the beaches in northern Sydney have been closed until further notice. Well, it must be said that attacks are not new in Australia; more than 1,200 incidents have been recorded since 1791.Pourquoi maintenant ? Why now? On the one hand, there are simply more and more people in the water. And on the other, the warming of the oceans is changing the habits of sharks, which are moving closer to our coasts.
