LIT Tax Increase? LP County Hearing Breakdown

On 10/16/2025 the LaPorte County Council had a special meeting regarding the 2026 Budget and opened it up for public comment. This meeting was in regards to a proposed .20% increase to the LIT (Local Income Tax) which was just increased in 2022 from 0.95% to .45%. A number of the County Council members were surprised that this was even mentioned, as they had not requested it. This breakdown is to address some of the rumors and misconceptions (and misinformation) that is circulating. Although we at #DDD were unable to attend the meeting in person, we did review the full meeting on Access LaPorte County and we're looking forward to jumping into this.
