V roku 1945 sa svet konečne zbavil pliagy menom druhá svetová vojna. Slovensko sa opäť spojilo s Českom. No ubehli len tri roky od toho, čo Slovensko prestalo byť fašistickým satelitom Nemecka a komunisti prebrali v Československu v roku 1948 moc. Viacerí autori sa následne odmlčali, iní odišli do cudziny, ďalší boli dokonca aj uväznení. Poéziu druhej polovice 20. storočia tak definuje hlavne nesloboda, no aj počas nej vznikali diela, ktoré stoja za to aj dnes.
