Little Bud | Stories About Nature

Bird Brown-Breast and his mate discover a white egg with a golden band in their nest, from which Little Bud, a human girl, emerges. Bud becomes the joy of the forest, befriending two exiled Elves longing to return to Fairy-Land. Bud journeys to Queen Dew-Drop, who decrees the Elves must create perfect garments to regain their status. The Elves struggle, but Bud's kindness inspires them to perform good deeds. Queen Dew-Drop allows them into Fairy-Land, but their garments remain withered. Humbled, the Elves work to revive the forest's flowers through winter, leading to blossoms everywhere in the spring. They return to Fairy-Land with Bud and are finally deemed worthy, thanks to their selflessness and Bud's tireless advocacy.
