LITTLE GREBE - TACHYBAPTUS RUFICOLLIS

This week Garrett is imagining to look at a bird called a LITTLE GREBE. It’s name in the Irish Language is ‘Spágaire tonn’. The Latin name is ‘Tachybaptus ruficollis’. Happy to say it is a GREEN listed bird in Ireland. It swims like a duck, it looks like a duck, but it's not a duck! It is a small bird and the smallest of the GREBE family. AKA 'Dabchick'. It has a bonkers but lovely distinctive shrill type call. A brilliant little diver. Due to its Hydrodynamic missile like shape underwater, it finds it hard to walk on land.HIDE FM is a Per Cent for Art commission by Fingal County Council.
