Let's last for a while We're only watching the skies Hoping for the best but expecting the worst Are you gonna drop the bottle nut? Let us die out! Welcome back to Dan and Brentley Forever. I'm Brent.
I'm Dan. Man, it has been a minute. Yeah, it has. Is there any winning circumstances?
Unfortunately. Yeah, crazy stuff has happened. Like originally it was like our schedule didn't line up and then craziness happened and it's just mostly lying to ourselves and each other. Not really.
Okay, I'm not going to end it just. No man, I'm real busy. I'm really just sitting in the couch. You can be in a better cups.
Watch the worry. And that always makes things easy. Not. Yeah, September was pretty much a wash.
I mean there was a storm. I went to Atlanta. You went to Florida. Yeah.
A bunch of training for work and it just traveled. Yeah, and then the craziness happened. Have we even done one since I went on vacation at the beginning of September? No.
We didn't do anything in September, did we? No. It's been crazy. Yeah, I was crazy man.
You went through training and then I went through training. So that's two weeks just off the table completely. My daughter's birthday was last week. Yep.
So the whole week was kind of shot in the weekend and it's just been... And then I almost died. Then Dan almost died. Yeah.
So let's talk about that a little bit. Yeah man, I'm sure everyone's asked you a thousand times and you told a thousand stories. So let's see your one final time. Alright.
Well, I'll skip you the average version. So during slash after my trip to Atlanta, I started just feeling kind of... Shitty. Titzy-turvy.
You know, like a little... Vertigo. Yeah. It was like a...
it was about a year ago actually. Because I remember it was before sober October. I started complaining of vertigo and I thought I had broken my brain from drinking too much rum. Delicious rum.
And I was like man, good timing. Because sober October, time to clean up. Well, same thing kind of happened. But it wasn't going away.
So I slowed down the drinking. I wasn't really drinking that much at all. So I started thinking I had the flu. And this was like two and a half, three weeks ago.
So on Friday I was like, hey man, tell me boss. I'm like, uh, I'm going to the doctor. Like right now. Like right now.
And he's like, well, can you do some stuff after that? And I'm like, no. Pretty sure I can't. And he's like, how do you know?
And I'm like, we'll see what the doctor says. But I'm pretty sure he's gonna be like, just to go take it easy. Right? Yeah.
Because I know I'm not. I shouldn't drive much less work. No, I felt very uncomfortable. Like it felt like I was on a cruise ship.
In like in rough season. Yeah. Like at all times. Like everywhere I went, it was like, whoop.
Throw up my hand. Oh awful. It's a horrible feeling. Much better now though, by the way.
Which is good. Yeah. So I went to the urgent care and nothing wrong. Because you know, and initially I'm like, guys, it's gotta be like the flu.
In your infection. Worst case scenario. I have like diabetes. I don't know what's going on.
Who knows? I treat my body like shit. It's a shake factory. I don't expect great things at it.
All the prizes in the gumball machine are a possibility at this point. Like, Ch, Ch, Ch, Ch. What did you get? I bet you there's one thing that if I would've said, you have this.
You're like, nah, that's not it. Yeah, you're probably right. You got me there. Okay.
So they're like, everything's cool. Except your blood pressure. And I'm like, no big deal, man. I've had high blood pressure since forever.
Like they've been telling me this since I was in high school. And no one ever put me on my base. Yeah. They just figured, because once I'd sit around for a while, I would usually go down.
Yeah. And like when they would do blood work, they would find that I have like freakishly low cholesterol. Freakishly low. And they're like, maybe you're just one of those dudes that has high blood pressure.
You're in bad shape. I mean, you're not in great shape. You're not in bad shape. Like, but it's like low heart rate.
With what? Like Tommy Buns with his low resting heart rate. Exactly dude. For no reason at all.
So yeah, my heart beats like 40 beats a minute. Yeah, like his high, what? His muscle enzymes? I don't know.
He must be an athlete. Nah. Look at him. Yeah, that's exactly how I felt.
So the lady's like, we can't let you leave here. Legally, because we think- Because it's that hot. You were at risk. And now we're liable if we let you leave here.
And I'm like- So it wasn't high. It was like medically high. Yeah, like you're in trouble. 200 over- Sounds crazy now.
200 over 130? One 30 was my bottom number. Yeah, that's usually the top number, right? That's usually a high top number.
A little high. Yeah. I know I've done like the machines and the stores, which probably aren't very accurate, but- They're pretty good. They're pretty good.
Are they? Like 172 over something. That's too high. Yeah.
Oh no. Yeah. I know. But I'm also obese.
Do you want to test it later? We should test it later. Oh yeah, you have a machine now. I would love to test it.
Yeah dude. That's too high. Yeah. You know I know.
I'm about to tell you. No, I know. I'm about to tell you. Okay.
So they're like, look, you have to go to the emergency room. Now, do you want to be an idiot? I mean, this chick was like straightforward with me. She was like, do you want to be an idiot?
And go home and die. Or do you want to pay a lot of money for an ambulance ride? Or can you be responsible and go to an emergency room? I'm like, okay.
Yeah. When someone says it like that, you just go, okay, I don't want to go. And she was like, where do you want to go? I said, what's Ashley?
It's personal favorite. Roper? Yeah, Francis? Yeah.
Set my work, sir. And the OR. Man, you know what's a good feeling? When I'm exaggerating?
When could Delphin Sarcast become? The doctors at the ER like, man, this is too much for us, man. Yeah. Yeah.
So I went to the emergency room. They're like, what's going on? I explained. They're like, cool.
We're going to do a CT scan of your head. I'm like, sweet. Let's do that. Because blood pressure starts in the head.
Right? That's what I would have thought. Well, after explaining the symptoms. So dude comes back and says, you know what?
Everything looks good. Blood works fine. You don't have any tumor indicators. We even ran some contrast through your system.
Nobody deal. But your brain's bleeding like in the middle in an inoperable place. And your reaction is the exactly my reaction. Like, wait, you literally just said nothing's strange followed by, but I mean, a little blood on your brain.
Yeah, you have a pontine hemorrhage. I'm like, what's that? And they're like, well, really deep brain bleed. I'm like, cool.
So what are we doing? Are we planning a funeral? Why am I still talking to you? And he's like, well, we're going to push on ambulance and be downtown to Amioc, the medical university, and put you in the intensive care head trauma unit.
Yeah, when I went to go visit you. Yeah, you did. Yeah, by the way, on a problem. Still pretty awesome.
Yeah, I know. Yeah, I know. I know. I know.
I know. I don't know. I mean, dudes don't do that. I mean, and you wouldn't have thought of anything.
No, no, no, no, no. Your friend's awesome. You know, I was like, yeah, good boy. I do want to go.
You know, just see him. And I realize how important that is now. Yeah. I mean, just checking on somebody is important.
And I mean, I don't know what I would expect, like from previous jobs and stuff. I've been like reaching out to me. One of the reasons I didn't want to is exactly what you said, like when I showed up. Oh, great.
I'm dying. Now I'm really dying. There's people here to visit. Well, yeah, because you feel awkward.
Yeah, yeah. Oh, no, I get it. I don't have any clothes on, dude. I'm in a gown.
I was, you know, you told me about it. It had to be a little surreal. And I was like, dang, it died right now. That seems intense.
I used to wear intense. And then when I get there and I'm like, oh, we're like, oh, I'm not in TensorFlow. I'm like, oh, and TensorCare? Oh, it is intense.
Oh, it seriously is intense. Man, bad joke on wrong. Yeah. But yeah, no, I mean, come to see whatever.
Man, I don't know if you noticed, but I got to say, medical university of South Carolina. It's fine. It's a nurse's fro. Like even my wife pointed it out.
Like we're thinking like, okay, I've been here for a while. You know, apparently they're going to keep me overnight for whatever. I don't still don't really know. Fine as nurses all day long.
And, you know, Terry and I both are like, we see this, you know, kind of overweight, dude. I mean, he makes you look super tiny. We're like, okay, cool. Night's what?
Yeah. And then my nurse comes in. Not the floor manager. My nurse comes in.
It's like 26 year old. Easily could be a model easily. And that's how they all were, dude. It was crazy.
They're all like tan and just like perfect. Like perfect. I don't know how else to say it. They're perfect.
Like both of us are just like, come on. Really? There's this many attractive people in a stand over there. I'm like, I need my Spongebeth.
You're not, I mean, you can move on your own, right? I need Spongebeth. Man, I'm 39. I didn't even want.
I'm like, this chick's going under my shirt. I'm like, I don't even let my wife do that. Oh. But yeah, so your brain was bleeding.
Your blood pressure was out of way too high. So then all night long, usually one to two doctors would come in and say, do you know where you are? What year is it? Well, because your brain's bleeding.
They want to make sure your brain is. No, they're testing me for stroke. Those are stroke questions. If anybody ever starts asking you those questions because their brain, yeah, I mean, they want to make your brains.
Okay. Yeah, they would test like my coordination. They'd be like, touch your nose, go, go, go, go, close your eyes. Hands over, upside down, hold my finger, pull your finger.
And, you know, when I started saying like, well, where do you want me to put your finger? They were like, all right. He's fine. Yeah.
It's like you want to joke because you want to let them know that you can still joke at the same time. You don't want to be like, well, it's a defensive. You're like president and you're immediately kind of like Ronald Reagan. I should have recorded the straight face.
Ronald Reagan. I should have recorded the whole thing because it's defensive. I need to get out of here. Back to the future comes on.
It's just being released tonight. I can't wait to see it. I should have. But it doesn't be cutting open my head.
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Oh man.
Which they made known. They're like, oh, yeah. I mean, we're not saying it's inoperable because we can try. Let's be honest, we'll operate.
But you're not going to be the same. It's not a good outcome. No, they told me. Yeah.
Straight up. Look. That's the last option. Here's the weird thing about stuff like that.
That's the end of the road. Like them telling you like you won't be the same. The weird thing about that is you wouldn't notice. Right?
You wouldn't. You sure? I think so. I think people who are pretty self-aware dude.
I know. But I think the brain, the way it works is like if something changes, like you don't notice. I know what you're saying. You know what I'm saying?
Like, I'm just saying this is a conversation that would lead into and I don't want to get into that conversation. No, I don't either. But I'm just saying like it's just a weird thing to think about. That's like anything like that.
Like, I always have a fear. It's kind of like, it's kind of like your breath. Like, do I have horrible breath and nobody knows. I have horrible breath and nobody's telling me because they're saying that right now for a reason.
Yeah, because I got some bad teeth and I'm pretty sure my breath is horrible. Yeah. I know what you tell me. I know what you tell me.
But I brush them regularly and mouthwash and chew gum and everything I can because I'm super paranoid about it. Same here. I always have this fear like it hits me when I'm shooting for some reason. That like I'm not me.
I'm doing the real thinking. Like I'm actually like in a coma somewhere and like when I think I'm only shooting, I'm shooting my pants in some hospital bed and I'll never know. Whoa. That's a good one.
Yeah. I mean, that's what I think. And I'm like, what if I'm like walking around? I'm like, I'm in the lobby and I'm like, shit in a fucking plant.
You have no idea. You wouldn't know. Yeah. Brain scary.
Brain is especially bleeding brain scary. So they didn't MRI. Basically, you came in and said, look blood pressure is too high. They couldn't point to an event.
That's what they kept looking for. They kept looking for an event. Yeah. Because this hemorrhage in my brain.
Now, did that hemorrhage happen because of your blood pressure? They're pretty sure. Right. I mean, I would think that's why it would happen.
The more experienced doctors were and this is also what troubles me now that I'm talking about it. The more experienced doctors were treated. Experienced doctors were troubled by that idea. They're like, look, it's not likely.
Really? They're like, usually your blood pressure spikes because of something else. So like the bleeding in the brain caused the blood pressure not the other way around? No.
No. No. No. Just two separate things that happen to be happening at the same time.
For example, that's probably why they kept testing me for stroke because for your blood pressure to spike like that, it's usually when you're having an event that's fucking catastrophic. I mean, bleeding on the brain, you would think would be catastrophic. No, they're saying that that's, that's what their theory was that the bleeding on the brain. I mean, was because of an event.
That's what they kept looking for. Okay. That's what they kept looking for and couldn't find. I mean, technically when you, they're very confused.
When you blow a blood vessel on your brain, isn't that technically an aneurysm? Yes. So basically you had an aneurysm, but with no ill effects of an an aneurysm. Correct.
I'll tell you why. The location, location, location, location. Oh, no, there's actually a bad location. That explains the dizziness.
Apparently we're, upon team, Himmrich happens, it's deep. Like in the back of your head, like if you can imagine like where your spine attaches to your skull, however that works. Yeah. That's kind of where it is.
That's where your balance is. And a lot of your motor skills. That's why they were like, you don't want us to go in there with a knife, dude. I mean, because you come out deaf.
I mean, that's what they're saying. Like it's so close to everything. Yeah, it's like the center of your personality wise. You'd be fine.
Yeah. Cause that's all front of them. Yeah. But they're like, memories are in the top.
Right? So you go with memories and yeah, but this is all function back here. That's the bad spot. Yeah, that's the bad spot.
That's, that's like, you're not shooting by yourself for the rest of your life. I don't know. I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't blame you if you left. Oh, yeah.
Like, I mean, just put me at home. It's cool. Well, I already told Terry, like if, if it's going to come down to like me not being able to communicate or I'm going to be seriously impaired, not only affecting your quality of life, but my own. Yeah.
And I'm a freak to my own self. Just kill me, man. Like you have it. Then she doesn't.
Or pull the plug or fucking do not resuscitate fucking feed me booze and in the hospital. I don't care. Do whatever you want to do. Just make it happen.
Cause I'm not living that way. She just comes home with that. You just come home and ate. There's a huge ball around.
Just says good luck. Love, Terry, which leads me to what? Really the only prognosis or diagnosis was. And that's really just my lifestyle because they didn't believe me.
Apparently, about that, because your liver is fine. I have Herculean, like Midwestern genes, like from years and years of like farm stock that I can't be taken down by normal means. I'm like, raspy, dude, they had to like shoot him and like drag him with chains and drown him and stab him. And he still was like, same kind of thing, which also makes me feel bad by the way because all the doctors so far have been like, uh, you're impossibly healthy.
And I'm like, I don't think you know. I think you're wrong. I think you're wrong. I think I'm very unhealthy.
And this is all warranted. Yeah. Of course my blood pressure is making sense now. So they never found anything.
There was no event. Like no tumors, no blackages, no nothing anywhere cholesterol, 80, bro. I'm sure mine's horrible. It's crazy low.
So just like blood pressure, supposed to be 120 over 80. Your cholesterol, like, like really fucking staying on your shit. Less than 100. This guy 80.
You know how much I worry about that shit ever? Zero because there's no cholesterol in deuce. But you know, there is no cholesterol in deuce. Great.
Thanks, Brent. Didn't believe me though. They were looking for this like event. And you're like, no, it's just an every day.
Okay. But not every day. But yeah, here's the regimen. Okay.
Um, 10 to 15 pieces of nicotine, a day. That's a lot of clean up. Yeah, way too much. That turns out to be most of the culprit, honestly.
Really? I'm not joking at all. Half about a booze. Yeah.
It's intense. It's too much. Yeah. I mean, it's still just to say a little bit, but that was normal.
Normal. Yeah. Totally crushed half a fifth of fucking no problem on a weekday. Yeah.
Say I can't go to work. No problem. Yeah. See, like on the weekends when I if I throw down, I can drink a whole bottle of booze.
But that's a that's it. And then the next day I feel like shit. I'm not going anywhere. And then the weekends are even worse.
Yeah, because I'm I'm I'm on I'm basically on vacation time at that point. So if I wake up whenever on Saturday, I almost immediately start drinking. Um, Adderall, Adderall, horrible food, horrible food, more drinking, drink it lunch, come home from lunch, because we usually go out on Saturday for lunch, come home from lunch, drink more, start to feel a little sleepy, maybe found a little water, just even out, probably more Adderall, next thing come the whole time. More drinking.
Dude, it wasn't that weird for me to kill a handle in a weekend. Yeah, it's not that's not weird. Yeah. I mean, it's weird.
No, it's weird. I understand. There's been days when it's like, Hey, we're gonna record and then you're like, I'm a boss and liquor. Then we don't record.
And then I come over. That's weird. Next day. And you're like, yeah, there's a little bit left for you.
Yeah, sorry. I drank it. Yeah. Like, Oh, okay.
You're like, Oh, you mean you drank the fifth? I mean, well, I bought a small bottle. Yeah. Fifth was a small bottle.
Yeah. Yeah. So once they finally believe me, they're like, that's gotta be it. And I honestly, I agree, dude.
I agree. So I've quit the nicotine gum. Really? You just straight up quit nicotine gum?
Yes. I didn't at first because they told me I could just wean off of it. Yeah, I mean, I don't know if anybody knows what Nick Dean is like, don't ever. It's horrible.
It really is. So a lot of people don't understand the whole like, if you ask a smoker, especially somebody's been into it for a while, if it relaxes you or if it perks you up and every smoker will say both. Yes. Exactly.
You know why? One is the dopamine. That's the one that we all expect, right? You know, it's a pleasure center.
Yeah. You know, it's repeated activity, et cetera, et cetera. The one I didn't know that became the reason I quit adrenaline. Nereline releases adrenaline in your body.
It's a small amount, but it tells your brain to go, hit that boy with some adrenaline. Well, that's why some people use, don't use nicotine because they smoked where they use it because it makes them more creative. I've heard of that. Yeah.
It's even King's. Yeah. It's an neuro-tropic. Yeah.
Because of, I guess, the adrenaline makes none of it. Wow. But that's why it's so hard to quit. Like, yeah, it's the thing that really a drug.
Oh, it's, it's the worst kind of drug because it's you. Yeah. It's lives in you. I mean, it's the same reason like firefighters and, you know, you know, bass jumpers are so insane.
Is to get more of that. But smokers are like, uh, yeah, I'll just have that like 20 times a day. Oh, yeah. And I can, I can bite everywhere.
That's why it's so hard to quit because you're like, nothing feels like that. At least cracking. I go find it. And just, yeah, exactly.
I mean, it's not like every gas station you stop at. Oh man. And grocery store and pharmacy. So cigarettes, you know, like, well, I didn't realize it was literally killing me.
Yeah, you thought, oh, it's not dangerous. I took a week off. Ultimately, they released me because they're like, look, you got to watch your blood pressure. You're gonna die.
And you're like, check. I got it. Yeah. It doesn't seem like it's that big deal.
But everybody was acting real weird around me. Yeah. I think I told you this, but they're like, well, we don't really have any protocol for this because we don't usually talk to people with pontine hemorrhages. And I'm like, why don't I usually send them to this floor?
And they're like, well, we don't find out until after. I'm like, after they're like, they're dead. After they're dead. Sweet, sweet.
And even my new primary physician is awesome. Russian slash maybe you're friendly. Excuse me. I mean, even this lady who's like the straightest shooter of all time, like you would have one drink a day.
I'm like, OK, she's like, if you can't have one drink, you have no drinks. I'm like, OK, OK. Like this lady is like, I don't know who your guardian angel is, but they're working overtime. Like really?
She's like, nobody has nobody is talking about. Nobody's talking about this. Yeah. No, she's like, no, there's people walking around all the time with brain bleeds, but they just, but not this one.
Oh, really? Yeah, she's like the one like in the middle of your brain. Most people ignore it because they think, oh, this is just go away and then boom. Man, more than one person told me if I had not gone to the doctor on Friday, I'd be dead.
Then I would have slipped into a coma because I wouldn't know the blood pressure issue. Yeah. OK. Unless I would have just like gone home and slept all like in.
I feel like shit. I'm not drinking. I'm not doing anything. But I would have had to like sleep for like a week, like, which is pretty much what I did.
Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah. And it was really what happens with the blood that's there now. I mean, I'm soon still there.
Does it just chill? Man, don't freak me out. I don't know. Does it scab up?
I don't know. I think it's more back into the body just towards the bottom. Somehow, probably. Man, why you gotta do that?
No, I'm just probably got blood clots in my brain. I'm going to start slurring out like that. No, why you gotta do that to me? Dude, I just didn't know if they if it absorbs or if it just is I mean, obviously on issue.
I don't know. It's like a bruise. How do bruise go away? They just absorb back in your body, right?
I don't think it gradually gets taken away by your bloodstream. Yeah. So I mean, the same thing's gonna happen there. That's I was curious.
Speaking of my glorious white trash jeans from India, apparently what saved me is that I'm some kind of a freak. Yeah, aside from all the other stuff. So check this out. I would have been dead.
Oh cool. But where the hemorrhage occurred? I have a capillary where most people have a blood vessel. What?
Yeah, so part of it broke and the other part kept feeding blood to that area. Whereas no, so you'll have a solid line. You had a network of lines. Correct.
No shit. Fucking super human. So that's why literally they said you don't hear from people who had this. Correct.
Because it would have been lines out. Yeah. You're like, I feel it. And I'm like, well, what would have happened?
And they're like, well, you would have slipped into a comment and you would have died. Yeah, you'd be like, I feel dizzy. And then I'm like, mm. Doesn't sound that bad.
I'm like dying asleep. All right, I'm down. I mean, I mean, dying and I go to sleep and never wake up. That kind of sucks.
Yeah. Yeah. So sorry. That's a little dark.
I seem to have stopped in tracks. No, no, I was just thinking isn't the pine needle gland in the dead center of your brain. I think so. What's the pineal gland?
That's what releases TMT into your body. Oh, shit. Right. It regulates your dreams and stuff.
Haven't any crazy dreams. Oh, I've had a lot of crazy dreams. Really? Yeah.
Seriously? Loads of them. That's crazy. I could call that, right?
Yeah. I mean, it could also be because you put a nose and think it's in your life's lifestyle dramatically. I have changed my lifestyle dramatically. You know, I will say it's not that much different.
And you know, just remember a little bit more. It's it's it's like any it's like anything that the devil tries to trick you man. It's like anything like your brain tries to trick you into thinking like you need it or if you stop doing this, it's really going to suck. Yeah.
And then you stop. Oh, no, not that bad. Yeah. Not that bad.
When something becomes habit. Like once it becomes normal normalized, it's like you don't realize that the way it even was exactly. I didn't even realize the nickname was such an issue until I did go back to work after the one week. And I keep my I own it.
I mean, it's super lame, but I own a blood pressure cuff now because I do not super lame. Yeah, and it's not lame at all. But that's why I said we need to test your blood pressure because for sure, you know what danger zone is for Dan is over 160. Oh, I guarantee you mine's at least 172.
Then you need to change your life. And I haven't eaten. You need to change life. Oh, yeah, for sure.
I know I know I know. No, no, that's all. That's the other thing I learned. It's the sodium.
Oh, so you miss all. No, no. It's different. What?
So the sodium that's in packaged foods is the problem. Okay, not salt. You add to your food. No, Russian lady told me the same thing.
She was like, table salt, use it. She's like, don't torture yourself. It's the sodium in packaged foods. She actually, she said, and you go into a grocery store, you're not allowed to have anything shiny.
Anything that shines? Not for you. What do you mean? She means anything in a package?
Oh, yeah. Okay. Well, I eat a lot of non packaged food. I'm well, you do.
You cook a lot of your own stuff. Yeah. Because you know, depending on how you make it, it's they use a ton of sodium for preservative reasons, like anything in a pan. Like anything in plastic, anything.
In the grocery store that's not fresh or made fresh. Yes. So one of the striking things to me was pasta. Like legit pasta has no salt in it.
Yeah. Fresh baked, fresh baked desserts, like cookies. I mean, why would you put a lot of salt in it? Yeah, just literally a pinch of salt whenever you make cookies.
Exactly. Where's everybody from stores like 150 grams of sodium. Well, and that's the other frightening thing that you start to realize is as you walk around a grocery store, looking for low sodium things. Oh, yeah.
You realize how much of the shit in a grocery store is. Well, that's like a repackaged and made in a factory. You're like, holy shit. There's only like a small fraction of the shit that's fresh.
Well, going like going on a keto diet where you had to watch cards and sugar. Like you're like, the fuck am I even supposed to eat? Like, there's nothing. Right.
Like, like you're like, Oh, yeah, fucking everything's made out of carbs. Yeah. I mean, besides me, everything's made out of carbs. Well, that's what the Russian was saying.
Because she was like, you know, sugar's a little bit high. And I'm like, yeah, but couldn't that be from the alcohol? She's like, yeah, she's like, it's not in the danger zone yet. If it was a little bit higher, you'd be in the danger zone for diet.
And I'm like, OK, she's like, don't freak out. You don't have to go on like a no carb diet or anything. I'm like good because no carbs, no salt. I'm pretty sure that's nothing.
