Names carry relationships and reputations, and God gives His people His own name. The third commandment reaches beyond swear words to broken promises, careless humour, and lives that claim Christ while dishonouring Him. God takes this hypocrisy seriously and will not leave it unjudged. Yet the name rejected at the cross is the only name that saves, so forgiveness and grace are found in Jesus Christ.
