Honouring parents can feel difficult when they are flawed, frustrating or deeply hurtful. Yet the fifth commandment connects honour for God with respect for parents and others in authority, while never requiring disobedience to God's law. Parents must also live honourably, patiently teaching rather than provoking their children, while shared respect supports healthy families and stable societies. Jesus fulfilled this command where sinners fail. He submitted to His earthly parents and obeyed His heavenly Father through the cross, so His perfect obedience covers His people and reshapes their lives with honour.
