For sixteen years, idolatry and wickedness increased all across Jerusalem and the kingdom of Judah during the reign of King Ahaz. Places of worship to Canaanite and Assyrians gods were erected throughout the city. The temple of the Lord God was desecrated with uncleanness, the vessels were cut up, and its doors were closed. Out of the midst of this intense spiritual darkness, God raised up King Hezekiah. Though he was the son of Ahaz, he had a heart to obey God and sought to call the whole country back to holy living before the Lord.
