Live Immediately

from Proverbs Daily Podcast · host Fred Lynch

Proverbs 15:15: “For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.” Today’s Episode: Live Immediately You ever sit down to a good meal and spend the whole time talking about what might go wrong tomorrow? Food right there in front of you, getting cold. Somebody you love sitting across from you. Did I mention the food? It’s here, and you’re somewhere in next Tuesday. Seneca, the ancient philosopher, wrote, “The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately.” What a quote! Live immediately. Do it now. Be here now. Man, that’ll preach. Proverbs 15:15 puts trouble and a feast beside each other. Circumstances matter. Some burdens are beyond our control. But a full plate doesn’t mean a peaceful heart. Two people can share a meal and experience the moment differently. Sometimes one person carries both joy and pain. Listen to Proverbs 15:15 in the New Living Translation: “For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.” Please don’t hear that Bible verse as somebody telling a grieving person to cheer up. Some days hurt. And I promise you we all will have our share of painful days. Here’s the invitation: while tomorrow is unsettled, can we receive something good today? Even in the middle of trouble, what’s still nourishing us? Uncertainty is real. But rehearsing every possible outcome can leave us feeling even less certain. Another scenario. Another unanswered question. Meanwhile, somebody’s trying to love us right here. Being present gives that love somewhere to land. We can hear the laugh we would’ve missed. Taste the food. Let a quiet moment actually be quiet. In Matthew 6:34, Jesus tells us tomorrow has enough trouble of its own. He knew trouble would come. Today still deserves our attention. Handle what you can. Then come back to the table. You don’t have to know how the whole story ends to enjoy this bite. Maybe today’s feast is small. A little food. A little company. Something that lets your shoulders drop. Receive what’s here. Receive it. There’s room for gratitude beside the questions. 🔥 REMEMBER You can receive today’s goodness without having tomorrow’s answers. 🙏🏽 PRAYER God, help me receive today’s goodness while tomorrow remains uncertain. 🎯 TODAY’S CHALLENGE Set a five-minute timer during one meal today. Put your phone away and give the food or the person with you your attention. Afterward, write down one good thing you noticed.
