Live No Lies | Moses | Pastor Steve Andres

from New City Church · host Pastor Steve Andres

Don’t forget what God has done! This weekend Pastor Steve Andres began a new series called MOSES. What is the setting for the story of Moses?Genesis 1:8Eventually, a new king came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph or what he had done. The background for the story of Moses is forgetfulness and fear. What does this story remind us about how to remain faithful in the face of adversity?1) Spiritual decline happens gradually, then suddenly.Forgetting, like falling asleep, is a process that happens gradually, but then suddenly and without notice. God’s word is clear that we are to be intentional about keeping the memory of God’s faithfulness alive.Psalm 78:4We will not hide these truths from our children;  we will tell the next generationabout the glorious deeds of the Lord,  about his power and his mighty wonders. Our job is to be diligent in declaring the faithfulness and power of God, or, like in Egypt, it will be lost to later generations.2) If God has led you to it, He will lead you through it.Trust in God’s purpose and plan will help us stay steady in difficulty or disappointment. God brought his people to Egypt for a purpose, and he would bring them out in his time.3) We may not have control, but we still have a choice. As Egypt’s oppression became more severe, the Hebrew midwives chose to peacefully resist. Maturity is accepting and adapting to the areas where I don’t have control, but choosing to honor God with whatever decisions I do own.4) If it isn’t fixed, God isn’t finished. The Israelites were enduring great suffering, but God wasn’t finished working. Their situation was a setup for God’s glory and miraculous delivery of his promises. Romans 5:6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.Jesus was a deliverer greater than Moses, one who would set us free from bondage to sin and death, and lead us into God’s promise of eternal life!
