Live Personal Statement Editing 2023 - Part 1
from The Pre-PA Club
Real essays. Real edits. Out loud. This is part one of live personal statement editing, where I read submitted essays and tell you exactly what's working and what isn't. It's the closest thing to sitting in on an essay review without paying for one. The patterns repeat every single year. Wordiness that buries the point. Vague statements that could describe any applicant. Long setup before we ever get to why PA. And essays that never actually answer the prompt, which is simply: why do you want to be a physician assistant? What I keep looking for is specificity. One concrete moment beats five paragraphs of adjectives. If a sentence could appear in someone else's essay, it doesn't belong in yours. Listen to these with your own draft open. You'll catch things in your writing that you couldn't see before. What I cover: Reading submitted essays and editing them line by line Answering the prompt instead of circling it Cutting wordiness without losing your voice Replacing vague claims with specific moments Showing you understand what a PA actually does Openings and closings that don't sound like everyone else's Resources: Free Personal Statement Worksheet: https://www.thepaplatform.com/services/free-personal-statement-worksheet-download Free Personal Statement Email Course: https://www.thepaplatform.com/services/free-personal-statement-email-course PA School Personal Statement Guide: https://www.thepaplatform.com/pa-school-personal-statement-guide Pre-PA Essay Review: https://www.thepaplatform.com/services/pre-pa-essay-review Mentioned in this episode: CapYear Training Get $200 Off CapYear Academy Looking to boost your clinical experience this summer?
