Liverpool Have Left Iraola With One Hand Tied Behind His Back

Craig examines how Liverpool ended the transfer window with obvious holes remaining in Andoni Iraola’s squad. The discussion starts with the proposed Cody Gakpo business and questions how Liverpool could apparently have contemplated major spending on attacking targets before suddenly finding themselves unable to strengthen elsewhere. Craig then turns to the balance of the squad, the lack of defensive and midfield depth, Liverpool’s spending strategy and why Iraola faces such a difficult job. There is also discussion around Liverpool’s young players, Richard Hughes, the club’s succession planning and why Craig believes expectations around Iraola need to take account of the squad he has been given.
