Livestock owner unfairly labeled

Editor: Re:“Owner faces animal cruelty charges,” April 29 I am writing in defense of the owner of the cattle pictured from the St. Hedwig area in Wilson County News. I no longer raise cattle, but did for a couple of decades or more. The cattle in the picture included some cows in fair condition, as well as some in poor condition with ribs showing prominently. We have been in a long drought with available hay in only poor to fair quality. Cows with ribs showing prominently were probably still nursing calves, while those in fair condition had their calves weaned... Article Link
