Initial Follow-Up on NECC with tech. dept. from work A. meeting yesterday (7/6/2005) i. four of five tech. dept. people attended (a Technology Specialist, the Lower School Project and Technical Manager, the Director of Computer Education/Assistant Director of Technology, and myself; director of tech. not able to make it) B. meeting = “How can we implement what we saw/heard into our school?” C. video editing seemed to be most popular choice to add to curriculum D. two of us (myself included) and the curriculum coordinator went to a PowerPoint presentation i. taught how to make PowerPoint for listener and not for presenter ii. we all agreed that info. from this session will be used when teaching kids how to make a PowerPoint; also when teaching teachers about PowerPoint E. I brought up the podcasting session I went to i. kind of tied it into video editing and school newspaper ii. our school’s not cable wired so we couldn’t really do streaming video announcements iii. I don’t know if I came across the way I wanted; maybe we could do a school podcast of sorts and post it on the school website to give parents (current and prospective) more info. and we could save some paper on the regular school newspaperIII. Missing next three weeks+ while in MN and driving back to PA A. Going to two other weddings and then I’m getting married B. makes things difficult for planning for next year C. can’t get into work to help plan for next year i. would be helpful for me since I’m switching departments at work ii. maybe by email, but then you miss out on some stuff - tangents don’t always get added into a meeting’s minutes and tangents can be good some timesNEWSIV. NY Times reporter Judy Miller going to jail A. many might have heard about this already B. talking to my mom about it i. she’s way to the left of the fence ii. I’m a little to the right of the fence iii. she starts talking about freedom of press and people now being scared to give info. if reporters give sources iv. I agreed, but this is a special case - it possibly endangered someone’s life and therefore the source needs to be held accountableV. LA Times reporting NHL and Players Assosciation agree on deal A. LA Times = NHL and the players' association are closing in on a new collective bargaining agreement B. LA Times saying agreement would have: i. hard salary cap linked to 54 percent of league revenue ii. 24 percent rollback of existing contracts and qualifying offers iii. provision limiting salary of any player to 20% of the team cap in any season iv. salary cap = $37 million & not including medical/dental/pensions v. being presented to NHL exec. committee Monday; players meeting to approve deal C. NHL & NHLPA denying it i. Players’ association spokesman Jonathan Weatherdon said, “The report is inaccurate.” ii. Grannis said he came up with the stunt through the help of his friend, professional stuntman Eric Barkey i. Barkey showed photo of himself on fire and said, "You could do that," Grannis said I. Grannis met Kusiek, the owner of a local hair salon, when she cut his hair. J.
