Christian love can be fickle and diverted by sin. Paul sends Tychicus to report on his imprisoned ministry and encourage the Ephesian church, showing how churches and their workers support one another. He then asks God the Father and Jesus Christ to give peace, love, faith and grace, gifts believers already possess but may receive more deeply. God gives the very love He requires.
