Living by Faith
from Thinking on SermonAudio Hosted by Rev. Bill Lovell
As Metrocrest marked 37 years of God's faithfulness, Rev. Lovell preached from Hebrews 11 on what the Christian life has always been: living by faith. Hebrews doesn't define faith in the abstract. It shows faith at work in Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, and the sermon follows it in three movements. **Faith trusts the word of God.** It is not wishful thinking but resting on what the God who cannot lie has promised. **Faith walks with God.** It obeys before it sees, even when the world thinks that obedience is foolish. **Faith longs for the city of God.** It accepts that some promises will only be seen "from afar" in this life, and it lives as strangers and exiles looking for a better, heavenly country. The sermon closes by calling the congregation, and each believer, to build their decisions and their lives on God's promises as they wait for Christ's return.
