Living in the light on this side of the cross

John 6:52-53 Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.” I’m so glad we live on this side of the cross and the resurrection. The consternation of the crowd seems understandable to me, since they didn’t know that He was going to give His body to be broken under the weight of the sins of the world. They didn’t know that He would shed His lifeblood for purification of sins and to reconcile the world to God. The apostle Paul explained it this way in Colossians 1:19-20. “For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” We live in the light of the cross and resurrection. We know what it means to eat His flesh and drink His blood. It is to abide in Christ! We know the great love God has revealed in Christ, so we aren’t standing in the dark like the crowd who grumbled at Jesus words. We should be very encouraged by the reality we have experienced in Jesus. We have life in us because we have believed to the point of trusting Jesus with our lives. May I ask you personally if you have a deep desire to continuously abide in Jesus? Do you realize that apart from Him, you cannot bear fruit? Are you eating and drinking from the life of Jesus? I hope and pray that your answer is a resounding, “Yes.” Abiding in Christ is like having a power tool plugged into an outlet and the “on” button is engaged. You’re ready to go into this day with a superpower pulsing in your soul. Every person whom the Lord places in your path will be blessed as you receive the life sap from the vine and then give to them what you receive. Enjoy your day with Jesus!
