Living the Compassion We Proclaim

The parable of the Good Samaritan is one of Jesus’ most recognizable teachings, yet it remains one of His most challenging. When an expert in the Law asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” he expected a definition. Instead, Jesus gave him a story that shattered cultural prejudice, exposed religious hypocrisy, and revealed what genuine love looks like. In this episode, we’ll explore the first-century Jewish context behind the hostility between Jews and Samaritans, why Jesus intentionally chose a Samaritan as the hero, and how this parable calls believers today to love beyond comfort, convenience, and personal preference. We’ll also connect Jesus’ command to love one another in John 15 and John’s reminder that loving God requires loving people.
