In this weeks episode of The Produce Industry Podcast w/ Patrick Kelly we chat with Liz Sertl of GS1 US. If you don't know about GS1 US......Well they are a global supply chain standards organization with over 2.5 million user companies that generate over 10 billion transactions daily using our standards. Some of the most common standards you may be familiar with is the Global Trade Item Number, the UPC barcode, the GS1 128 barcode (this is what growers/packers use when shipping cases of product) and the Global Location Number among others. Today, we here from Liz Sertl the Senior Director, Community Engagement, at GS1 US, the not-for-profit information standards organization, and has more than 20 years of experience in the CPG industry. Liz facilitates collaboration best practices and guidelines that help companies improve product traceability and supply chain visibility through the adoption of GS1 Standards. She also spent more than a decade with Anheuser-Busch in e-business solutions and packaging, where she spearheaded the company’s adoption of GS1 Standards for improved supply chain efficiency and trading partner relationships.    GS1 US oversees businesses in the United States, we are not-for-profit, industry driven and a neutral organization. This status provides industry a safe harbor and un-competitive common ground to come together and discuss supply chain and regulatory issues that they need to solve for the betterment of the entire industry. One major issue that industry is working to solve now is making sure all stakeholders in the supply chain can become compliant with the FSMA 204 final rule that was published last November by the FDA. Impacted businesses have until January of 2026 to be compliant so the industry is working hard to make sure all parties know what they should be doing now.
